Find me on:
Time magazine published the article To Make Your Kids Smarter: 10 Steps Backed By Science in May of 2014. The article referenced different activites to help student's academic growth, all supported by research:
  1. Music LessonsGia_Arms
  2. The Dumb Jock Is A Myth
  3. Don’t Read To Your Kids, Read With Them
  4. Sleep Deprivation Makes Kids Stupid
  5. IQ Isn’t Worth Much Without Self-Discipline
  6. Learning Is An Active Process
  7. Treats Can Be A Good Thing — At The Right Time
  8. Happy Kids = Successful Kids
  9. Peer Group Matters
  10. Believe In Them

The second item on the list, “The Dumb Jock Us a Myth" strikes a chord with those of us at ActivEd. From the article:

"Indeed, in a 2007 study of humans, German researchers found that people learn vocabulary words 20% faster following exercise than they did before exercise, and that the rate of learning correlated directly with levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor.
A 3 month exercise regimen increased bloodflow to the part of the brain focused on memory and learning by 30%."
We know that active kids learn better. Science proves it. That's why Walkabouts was developed based on the research of our founder, Dr. Julian Reed. For a summary of the research, check out The Science Behind Walkabouts!
